I reported last week that, according to an OC GOP insider, it was none other than Scott Baugh, the Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County, who, along with Supervisor Janet Nguyen, may have engineered Robert Hammond’s last minute exit from the 69th Assembly District primary - perhaps to help Democratic candidate Tom Daly, who is running against three Latino Democrats. Now an insider from the Democratic Party of Orange County (DPOC) has told me that his party chairman, Frank Barbaro, may have cut a deal with Baugh, to essentially trade Assembly Districts.
However, as Hammond was pulling out of the 69th, a last-minute Democratic challenger named Robert “Bob” Rush was filing to run in the 74th Assembly District. And get this, Rush was a Decline to State voter from at least 2002, through this year, according to the O.C. Registrar of Voters, before he suddenly became a Democrat this year. Something stinks.
